LawnFawnatics Challenge #147 – “Create a scene: city vs. country”

Have you heard about the LawnFawnatics challenge blog run by Lawn Fawn? If not, where have you been?! Every fortnight they post a crafting challenge that anyone can enter, as long as Lawn Fawn products are the stars of the show. They have a variety of challenges, from colour inspirations and mood boards to celebration projects and projects inspired by a favourite movie! The most recent challenge, #147 is ‘create a scene: city vs. country’ and runs until Sunday 30th April 2023.

For this challenge I decided to make a countryside themed card as I live on the edge of the beautiful English countryside and love being out in the open. I’d recently seen an adapted shutter card and wanted to use that for the base of my card so I cut that from some textured blue cardstock. I added rolling green hills in two different types of patterned paper and decorated the sky with die cut clouds and a sun.

For the waterfall I used a small rainbow die to cut out the pieces and then coloured them in in alternating shades of blue Copic markers. I cut an oval shape from blue patterned paper to create the pool at the bottom along with tiny rocks to decorate the top. I added blue glitter glue where the water meets the pool to give a sense of movement and dimension. Finally I die cut some trees from two different tones of green shimmer cardstock and used them to decorate the scene.

The rest of the card is decorated with stamped images, including the picnic scene, hot air balloons and the flowers. I’ll list the supplies I used to create the card at the end of the post.

As this is a shutter card I needed to make a ‘belly band’ to keep the card closed in the envelope. I decorated the front panel with more green hills, trees and clouds but added a ferris wheel in rainbow colours to the main band. When you take the band off the card it reveals the beautiful countryside scene inside.

I had so much fun making this card and while figuring out how to make a waterfall was challenging, that whats I love about crafting. Being able to sit and go through my stash to see what I have and how I can adapt it is a big part of what makes crafting so enjoyable.

I hope you’ll make your own card for this challenge and I look forward to seeing what everyone makes. You might even be one of the lucky crafters to have their card chosen to be highlighted by Lawn Fawn, or win the $50 gift certificate in the random lucky draw!

Have fun crafters!
