Hello and welcome back to my blog. Today we’re going to be looking at Washi tape, the decorative masking tape that originated in Japan.
Washi tape is a staple in most crafting rooms and is used for scrapbooking, card making, gift wrapping and a variety of papercrafting projects. Available in almost every crafting store in a variety of patterns, colours and sizes, you can always find the perfect tape for all of your projects.

Over at DRK Crafts they have a great selection of Washi tapes, including boxes of 20 coordinating tapes for just £5.99 – thats just 30p per roll!
I recently used some of them to create a selection of cards and matching envelopes. I love decorating the envelopes of cards that I send out so that the recipient knows they’re getting something special before they’ve even opened it. For these cards I used the Dovecraft Printed Washi Tape – Bright.

For the rainbow card I added Washi tape to the top and bottom of the rainbow striped panel, adding extra detail but in the same colour scheme. For the envelope I added two lines of rainbow hearts and a line of ‘lots of love’, coordinating with the sentiment on the card.

The next card heavily features washi tape. I used three different tapes in coordinating colours to create a striped background. I cut the ‘Happy Birthday” sentiment from purple and gold cardstock, drawing from colours in the washi tape. For the envelope I used two different rainbow patterned tapes on the fold to add lots of colour.

For the final card I added stripes of two different tapes to a panel of white card and then cut a straight diagonal line with a craft knife to create a clean, defined edge. I coloured the stamped image with coordinating shades of pink and purple Copic markers (BV00, BV01, R81 & R83) and then added gold stars cut from metallic cardstock, reflecting the stars on the Washi tape. I added the same tape to the envelope to create a coordinating set.
I have highlighted just three different ways that you can use Washi tape but there are infinite more. Which is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!
Happy crafting everyone and if you’re enjoying my blog I’d love it if you subscribed. That way you won’t miss any of my posts!
Have a great weekend!
